Legal Question in Construction Law in Florida

Please Help contractor put a lien on my house in Florida. I paid the contractor $3800 up front to start. The three day job took over 45 days and still having problems now with the health dept inspecting it. Contractor wants final payment $3800 so he put a lien on my house. I am planning on paying him an addition $1500 as final payment in Nov. I am still paying others to finish this job so I am out $2300 now, so that i why I am not going to pay him the final $3800. What should I do?? He filed the lien, not an attorney. Should I force the lien? Should I not pay him anymore? If I pay him, I would be under the law of $2500 so what happens to the lien now??

thanks :)

I see this question has been out for a while, if you have resolved, please disregard our response. In short, if you had to bring in other contractors to finish the work of the original contractor, you have the right to back charge that cost to the original contractor. Because a contractor files a lien, does not make it a valid lien. Also note, if you hire an attorney to have a lien removed and this has to be done via trial, you will be entitled to have the contractor pay your attorney's fees per statute.
