monies owed for extra work beyond contract

i have recently completed a large job --6 figures but was asked to do extra work totaling about 20 thousand dollars.not getting anything in writing but there are clauses in my contract stating 80% of theese things i did i should be paid for --final release of lien was filed in apr to recive final pmnt as per contract. but when presented the condo ass. with overages due i got ''well we are not going to pay for that''--any suggestions?-i am going to see a lawyer tommorow and have everything written up and documented--theese people owe me about20k-thanks -richie
