Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

I hired a contractor to make me a patio with pavers. He told me the workers were his but now one of the workers is threatening a lien saying he wasn't paid and that he was a sub contractot. I did not know this and paid in full the man I had a contract with? Can h lien my property? Do I owe him anything?

A subcontractor can place a lien on a property if the subcontractor performed work or supplied materials to the property even if the general contractor was paid in full and did not remit payment to the subcontractor. Lien waivers provided by the general contractor and all subcontractors help to protect against liens being filed against a property when the contract price has been paid in full. If the worker was in fact a subcontractor and was not paid by the general contractor, the subcontractor can place a lien on your property but you would have recourse against the general contractor for causing the lien to be recorded due to non-payment to the subcontractor.
