Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Bank account has been frozen

I maintain a US Florida chequing account with Citibank. I called them with a routine question and they told me that a lawyer or legal firm has intervened to freeze / suspend my account in recent days. I am told that a creditor in Italy - a high school there - claims an amount of money from me - $4000 approx. for tuition fees. I was aware of this (in 1999) and my wife disputed the matter with the school directly, via e-mail. Since then neither of us has heard anything.

As I am no longer living in the USA what can I do to solve this matter? I have no idea who this law firm might be and have never received correspondence from either the school or the lawyers involved!

Citibank say they have been told to freeze my account, but how can they do this to a customer? The bank does not have any information on who precisely has instigated this action.

What is going on, what is the legal implication for me and what can I do about it?

Regards and thanks.

Re: Bank account has been frozen

The bank can only freeze your account by order of a court or Federal agency. You need to give more information as it seems that a judgement or order has been entered and they are now garnishing your account.
