Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Not billed till 1 yr later

I had a doctor visit on 9/12/05. On 10/14/05, the MD received payment from my insurer (BCBS of FL). On 9/2/06, I received a bill for the amount my insurer did not cover. This is the FIRST bill I received ie. almost a year since service was performed. Is there a time limit on when someone can bill me for service performed? Am I required to pay this bill - from a year ago - when this is my first notice that I owe this? FYI: Amount Due is $253.27 Thanks.
