Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Hospital bill sent to estate of---

Hospitalization in Oct., 2007; no itemized statement ever received; assumed midicare and supplement insurance paid bill. May, 2008 received letter to estate of-- wanting full payment or threat of collection agency. Amount is $992.00 Mother died in Jan. 2008, destitute and on medicaid in nursing home. She lived w/me at my address until Oct. 07, so letter came to me addressed to Estate of ---. Have now received letter from collection agency demanding payment. Am I responsible for this? I was told by customer service rep. in hospital business office that FL law states that I am not liable for payment. What should I do next? Thank you for your help.
