Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

is this act criminal or civil.

I am a contractor in Florida. I renovated an a apartment entirely. I had the keyand permission to access the apartment for the past year. Upon doingwork not in the original contract,We had to remove kitchen cabinet doorsto prevent damage/Owners were notified of this procedure by Fax.Owner called police after finding doors removed. Has refused to pay balance of bill,and filed a report with police. Police say to return the doors.Ipresently have not returned the doors. What are my options?

The scenario that you have described could constitute a criminal act of theft or conversion of property, on your part. You would be well advised to return the kitchen doors.

In addition, you may have a civil claim for breach of contract (oral amendment to written) for non-payment. However, you may not lawfully take someone's property because of non-payment of a bill, unless there was a condition of the agreement to that effect.
