Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My boyfriend was already in a detention center on a charge but recently was provoked by an officer, the officer chocked him and he bit the officer and drew blood, my boyfriend was then moved to the county jail and hit with battery charges and 10,000 bond. My boyfriend says that the officer started with him and he bit him because the officer would not get off of him. Wouldn't that be considered self defense? What do we need to do? He has already filed a grievance.

Yes, there is a self defense issue here. But, because the officer is an officer, he was able to file charges against your boyfriend before your boyfriend filed charges against him. So, that means your boyfriend has to defend himself. If I were your boyfriend, I would hire an attorney asap. The attorney could advise whether a complaint against the officer should be filed. The bond is a little high and could be reduced.
