What paralegals do depends on the law firm. Some paralegals do secretarial work. Others do legal research and write memos. Only attorneys are licensed to practice law and only they can try cases. It is a crime for a paralegal or anyone else to try a case. Lawyers have Juris Doctor degrees which is an additional three years after graduating college.
