Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I lent my car to a friend to go to the grocery store wed. evening. It is Sunday & he has not returned. The police said I could not file it stolen as I gave him the keys. My only option was to file a locate. What are my options? Locate sounds like it will only be found if he is stopped or in an accident. I gave him the keys for a 1/2 hr trip max not a week. Help!

Which police department was this? If the person uses the vehicle beyond the time you allowed them to, then it can be considered theft. I would speak to someone else at the police.
