Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

sentence for non violent habitual criminals

my son lives in Florida and is being sentenced as a habitual criminal (non-violent)...none of his crimes are violent and he has a bad drug & alcohol problem...they are trying to give him 10 years on each charge which would give him like 30 years in prison...He is only 31 years old and would be past 50 when he gets out...what can I do?? He has not killed anyone and the punishment certainly seems cruel and does not fit the crime. Can you help??
