Taking public sports photographs

I recently signed up to take photographs of highschool, and college sports through a national website that issues press credentials. My father claims that you need to have signed consent for every person you take a photo of to sell through a national press photo outlet. Is this true?

No, he's wrong. You don't need consent to publish sports photos.
