Re: adult adoption

The adoption of an adult by a step-parent under Florida law is a simplified procedure as compared to the adoption of a minor. The procedures to be followed for an adult adoption are set forth under Chapter 63 of the Florida Statutes. As your son is an adult he would, of course, need to consent. If he is married his spouse would also be required to consent. The adoption process is started by the filing of a petition in the court in the county in which you live. The petition is accompanied by the requisite forms (including the consents) and a proposed order. Notice must be given to his natural father of the filing of the petition. If the father's whereabouts are unknown then substituted service may be approporiate. There are several other forms and steps that need to be completed prior to finalization of the adoption. As for the cost you can be charged either by the hour or on a flat fee basis. If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Re: adult adoption

An adult adoption differs a little from a minor adoption. You can contact a family law attorney to guide you through the process, The cost may vary depending on the area and expertise of the lawyer you hire.

My office handles this type of work, usually for a flat fee, plus court costs, but the fee can vary depending on the complexity of the situation.
