Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Bigamy?

My husband took a young girl to the Bahamas and had a marriage ceremony with her there. I found out about the affair and he promptly moved out of our home and in with her. He is still legally married to me at this time. I have no money for a divorce. He pays no child support for our 2 children and claims he has no job and no money. How can I get any help and is his new girl legally a wife? What are my rights?

Re: Bigamy?

Under Florida law, he is legally married to you, not her. You might want to talk to the police about a bigamy charge, though bigamy isn't commonly prosecuted.

Money or no, you need to get child support, either through a divorce, a legal separation, or the Department of Revenue's Child Support Enforcement division. You're entitled to child support from him even if he isn't working. You should speak to an attorney about what property you're entitled to from the marriage and whether you can get alimony.
