Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Divorce & joint car loan

My soon to be ex was arrested, left car in impound to be auctioned off, a 2007 Chrysler Aspen that is jointly owned by both of us, but insured in only his name. In order to save my credit, I paid to get it out of impound & now have it in my possession, however, he as dropped insurance on it, which puts my drivers license in jeopardy of being suspended. What are my options with the auto? I can't afford the loan or insurance, have my own car & insurance, and do not want this vehicle. Should I voluntarily surrender it to the bank?

Re: Divorce & joint car loan

A "voluntary surrender" shows as a repossession on your credit and counts as the same, but I suppose you have to do what you have to do if you can't afford the car and the insurance.
