Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Financial Responsibility in Marriage

If my husband incurs medical bills, i.e. doctor/hospital (he has no health insurance) and he doesn't pay them, can these providers put a lien on my house (which is in my name only/bought prior to marriage), or take me to court, or file a negative report with the credit reporting agencies just because I am married to him?

They can try, but it should not stand.

Probably not but in some family law cases the have been rulings that one spouse is responsible for the basics costs of the other spouse(like food, clothes, and medical bills).I could suggest several changes you can make to document your house is not subject to his medical bills .If you are interested e-mail me your phone # to me so I can call you.

If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

The courts in Florida have consistently held that a wife is not responsible for the medical obligations of her husband. Your homestead would always be protected from the debts owed to anyone other than a mortgage holder or governmental agency. If any negative credit information is placed on your history, it would be wrong and you can get it removed by disputing it.
