Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I am in Florida and my little cousin's (17 years old) mother died last year. At the time we decided that it would be okay for his maternal aunt to assume custody of him. The situation did not work out and she sent him away to live with his father after 2 months. That situation did not work either and now he lives with me. I am taking care of him but dealing with his aunt who has legal guardianship is a nightmare she is rude and unhelpful and keeps threatening to take him away. How can I go about taking legal guardianship away from her. I have emails, text messages, and phone records that prove that she is difficult and often unavailable. I would simply wait a year until he is 18 but the stress of dealing with her is unbearable. How can I end this nightmare? Is it worth my time?

The easiest thing would just be to get a letter from the father saying that you have permission for your cousin to live with you. You should also get a medical- and school-related power of attorney from the father.

But, if you really wanted to do this right, you should adopt your cousin.

No good deed goes unpunished.
