Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Still married or divorced?

My boyfriend got married a few years ago in D.C. or Virginia. After a month, him and his wife realized that it wasn't going to work. They went to get an annulment. They assumed all the paperwork went through until about a year and a half ago when he got papers letting him know that he was still legally married. He got divorce papers and had his wife (ex-wife) resign the paperwork. He has not heard anything else since then. He can not find any record of it on the internet. Is there a way to find out if the divorce went through? Are they still legally married?

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

Your boyfriend would have to check with the court where the divorce papers were presumably filed. He can simply call the clerk's office to find out rather than rely on an internet search. Unless a final judgment of divorce was entered, he is legally married.
