Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My son wants to adopt his wife's daughter. They have been together 14 years and married 10 years. The daughter is 14 now and he has raised her since she was one. She uses his name, but wants it legally, and he wants to help her to do that. She is quite adamant about this.

He has IRS papers and school papers dating back to when she was one year old, and county papers when she started school at six. Are there other papers he needs? Can he do this himself, or must he have a lawyer, and please an approximate cost?

Can you recommend an attorney in the Lakeland, Florida area if that is necessary?

PS The father has had no contact sense the age of one. He would not protest.

thanks

larry

Your son want's to do a Step Parent Adoption. He can find the forms online at flcourts.org if he wants to do it on his own. I don't know any attorney's in that area but he can always check with the Florida Bar for a referral.
