Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

unattended minor

My job requires me to travel over night 2 times per week. I am divorced from my child's father who lives in a different city and is known to be mentally abusive to her. She is in 11th grade and recently turned 16 years old. In Florida, is she old enough to be left alone overnight on a regular basis so I don't loose my job? What are the Florida laws about leaving a 16 year old alone?

Re: unattended minor

There is no such rule. What happens is, if something goes amiss so that it would be classified as an act of "neglect", "abuse" or "abandonment", the Department of Children & Families will not be getting involved.

A disgruntled neighbor who knows might call in a report, so there is always that out there.

It might be a better course to leave her with some responsilbe friend, or get permission from your daughter's friends' parents for the two days.

It's just dangerous in these times to leave a girl alone.
