Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I had wrote out a check for $1000 for a deposit for a house that my in - laws wanted to get back in 2006. The smart thing was that I did write out for the house they wanted me to down, the bad thing is that I told them to take their time on it. They promised to pay me back, and now they don't recall anything. Is there anything I can do to get this money back?

You can sue them for the money in small claims court. The check is proof of the loan.
