Legal Question in Medical Leave in Florida

I have been sole caregiver for my mother with numerous health conditions. Last year, I had a medical procedure of my own. I recently was forced to file for FMLA not because I missed work, but because I had scheduled medical appointments on my day off and was then unavailable to come in to work when asked. Between the two of us needing medical care, I was relieved to have intermittent leave for my mom, as her doctor said taking about one day off per month is very reasonable for managing her medical affairs.

But I do not want to give up my vacation time for her medical affairs. Why would I be forced to use my vacation time when I am perfectly willing to have one day per month unpaid?

As far as I know you should be able to take the time as unpaid time and not use your vacation time. Is your employer requiring you to use your vacation time? Feel free also to check out my employee rights blog at www.takethisjobnshoveitblog.com or my website www.behrenlaw.om
