Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

How does my girlfriend go about moving to the states from Canada?

How does my girlfriend, who is a Canadian, go about moving to the United States.

We eventually will be married and she wants to be able to work here and to become a U.S. citizen.

Would it be better for us to fill out all of the immigration forms and hope we don't make a mistake or should we hire an immigration attorney to handle this?

Also, approximately how long will it take before she can work here and how much does this cost?

Thank You

There are a few options for your girlfriend. On the family-based immigration side, a fiance visa could be a good option. She would enter the US once the petition is approved and you would be required to marry within 90 days. Then, she could adjust her status to a permanent resident.

She can apply for a fiance visa and then adjust her status to lawful permanent resident once the marriage takes place.

In all honesty, this is a delicate procedure and can be costly ($2-3500 plus fees of about $1000 or so) depending on many factors. I highly suggest a consultation with an experienced immigrationm attorney. We charge $100 for same which can be done telephonically if you choose. Please email [email protected].

Understand that I am not avoiding the question, rather, an email could never answer your question properly

Thanks
