Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida

Hello, I come from Hong Kong. I was involved in a car accident when I visited USA in 2006. I have rent a car with Supplemental Liabilty Insurance (SLI) purchased. Recently injuries of the accident claimed me and then I have been noticed that the amount claimed could be in excess of the protection of SLI, there may be personal liability for damages to me. If this is the case, what will happen to me? In general what is the legal action to person in overseas? and what should I do? Thank you for your attention.

Dear Sir,

You may be held liable for damage which you caused while here in the US. But, DO NOT listen to the insurance companies. The issues are 1) how much is the damage; 2) how liable were you for the damage; 3) has the SLI insurance paid in full. I hate to say it, but people will lie -- especially insurance companies and people claiming damages. You need an attorney to focus on what is true and protect your rights. Even if you are truly liable for some damage, an attorney will make sure that a settlement is fair and complete.

Please seek the counsel of an attorney in the area of Florida in which the damage occurred. There are many personal injury lawyers in Florida who regularly deal with auto insurance companies, and one will be able to help you.

I hope that was helpful.

Kind regards.
