my refrigerator died and i had more than $200 worth of groceries in it. is my landlord responsible for all the spoiled goods as well as compensating me until my new fridge arrives?

No. Your landlord is not responsible for your food or for any compensation for your inconvenience. That is, unless there is some provision in your lease to the contrary.
