Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I recently left my girlfriend and our leased house. She is currently demanding the key and refusing me access to the property. Am I still liable for half of the rent if I cannot access the property? I live in Florida.

She does not own the house and you are on the lease. I suggest you take a police officer with you to the home with a copy of the signed lease so that you may obtain your possessions. Afterwards you need to contact the landlord and inform him that you are no longer in the house and put the landlord on notice that you will not be paying the rent. Although you will be responsible for the rent as you signed an agreement. HOwever, if she is paying and there are no problems, when the one year is up you need to be sure she either signs a new lease without your name on it and not let it go into a month to month tenancy and/or be sure you have notified the landlord that you do not intend to renew.
