Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

We were behind on the rent, so the landlord called my work and asked to speck to the assistant principle and to the principle ( I am a teacher) and told them that not only I was late, but that I a a bad person and ripped me in pieces. I was so distraught, I had to take the day off yesterday and today, everyone at school is talking about this. I am so uncomfortable at my work now, he even told the principle "how can you have people like this working for you and teaching the kids" Is what he did legal?

You need to see an attorney. Your landlord is responsible for calling your workplace and for his comments to your boss and co-workers. This is slander, may be slander per-se, meaning that you don't have to prove injury in order to collect. This is also a serious violation of the FDCPA. You may be entitled not only to damages, but to attorney fees as well. Hopefully your landlord has lots of money or liability insurance.
