Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My former roomate and I are being sued for 13,000 for breaking the lease. I was served court papers, but since he moved out of state they said they cannot serve him, and this is all going to fall on me. What options do I have at this point? Thank you.

They can serve him and you need to get an attorney. If you signed a lease - and then you break it, you are only responsible for that portion that the unit is not rented for or for the balance of the term of the lease. they must make the effort to mitigate the damages by leasing the unit.
