Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

I was a bus driver for a private school, I just drive the bus NO maintance, on the 3rd day of schooli was involved in an accident. I was cited for the accident. On scene the officer told me he did not like how the brakes were sounding as i did do all i could to stop the bus and warned the kids before impact.very little damage done to other vehicle, but he is now sueing the school, and i no longer drive for them. They keep insisting I make a statement to the Schools insurance company, i made an onsite statement and with out a job, i can not offord to hire an attorney. Should I give my statement to the insurance company for the schools pending lawsuit, or retain my own and give no statement.

You are probably ok giving them a statement since the school's insurance company is responsible for both negligent maintenance of the brakes and any negligence of any driver including you. Plus, in suits against the state, Luke yours, for simple negligence, the emo, oyee (you) cannot be named. While it is always a good idea to have your own lawyer present for a statement, in this situation you are probably well protected from any personal liability whether or not you cooperate with the school board insurance company.

If the school had adequate insurance you are ok. If not, retain your own attorney.
