legal judgements against joint assets.

If I am sued as a result of an accident, can the plaintiff get a legal judgement against assets owned jointly by me and my wife? In this case mutual funds.

You may have joint liability with your wife if she is the registered owner of the automobile or she is the driver and you are the owner.

In order to answer your question in would be necessary to know who owned the car that was in the accident. In addition, This is the reason that at asset protection planning has become more popular. I have been advising all my clients to review with me the assets that they own and who owns them.
