how to succeed in small claims court

What do i need to bring to small claims court if i am the Defendent? It's an unlawful case there is no written warranty or anything and it has already been replaced once. Should i gather all the information i can on the subject and submit that to the court or would that be heresay? please help court date on the 20 th this month
