Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I am a cosigner on a mortgage. The primary is trying to obtain some type of modification. I was told that I needed to do a quick claim deed so that the lender would not have to get income verification from me but this would not remove me as a cosigner. I refused. I do not live at the property and never have. I later found out that the primary is behind on the payments. I am only able to get limited information from the lender since the loan information can only be retrieved through the primary's information. I also found out that there is another social security number beside my signature on the original loan paper work. I never gave my social security number or permission to run my credit. As far as I knew, the lender did not. I was also never ask to produce verification of income. I checked my credit report and the property in question does not appear on my report as one of my debts. However, the lender has told me that if the primary defaults, then I am now responsible for the loan. The primary refuses to give me any information about the loan agreement or the status. How can I protect myself? Can the lender put any type of liens on my primary residence if the primary defaults on the loan? If the primary defaults, can this in fact hurt my credit? Please help!
