Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My house which I vacated 6 months ago is going through the short sale process. Both 1st and 2nd lien holders have approved it and the closing is scheduled for 6/25/2010.

In the meantime ( served on 6/5/2010) the 2nd loan holder ( who are also co-operating with the short sale) have filed a lawsuit against me. I have 20 days to file a response to the summons. I cannot afford an attorney and would appreciate advice on how to file this response. It is likely that the closing will go through long before the court case (if any) is finally scheduled. Is there any real reason to file a response??? What could that achieve? I am in arrears with the mortgage, and will never be able to make up payments.

Thank you for your assistance

You may have defenses so I would recommend finding an attorney. If you cannot afford one, check with your local legal aide, or local bar association. That may have free attorneys willing to work pro bono.
