Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I neglected to remove my homestead exemption when I remarried and moved out approx. November of 2010. This was not intentional, just extremely busy and was travelling quite frequently. I have always paid my taxes on time. I received a letter saying they were cancelling my exemption because my mail was forwarded and it was probably not my main residence anymore. It was simply forgotten. What should I do?

If it is not your homestead, then it is appropriate to let it lapse. As far as going back to correct the other years, I would seek legal help from an expert in real estate tax assessment law.
