Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Parents dog not allowed inside house

My parents were planning a vacation and I was to watch the dog. I notified the landlord that I was doing so and would like him to contact us so that we could be home if he needed in for anything. Landlord stated that dog could not stay inside due to liability reasons. We signed a lease stating that animals were OK. When questioned about this the landlord stated that that was with the understanding that we would get no other pets other than our current cat. Is there any such liability clause saying that the dog cannot stay or does the landlord know what he is talking about? He also stated that he would add a pet deposit if he sees the dog inside again.

Re: Parents dog not allowed inside house

Read the pet provision of your lease. If pets are allowed then the dog is allowed. The landlord cannot change the terms of lease in midstream.

The landlord is bound by the terms of the lease. It cannot be changed mid-term.
