Legal Question in Tax Law in Florida

Deferred Comp

I am in debt. My husband and I were separated. He lost his job and died of an OD had no insurance and debt. I had to pay for his burial then found out that about two years ago he filed a bogus tax return. I got stuck with the penalities and back taxes. The IRS would not let me file an injured spouse. I am drowning in debt. I have enough in my deferred comp to pay it off. I don't want to file bankrupsty or refinance my house.

Re: Deferred Comp

You do not qualify as an injured spouse, but you may be eligible for Innocent Spouse relief. If the IRS rejected your request, you can appeal. If you did not sign the return, you should not be responsible. You may also qualify for penalty abatement, which may wipe out 25% of what you owe. Call me if you need help.
