Legal Question

Car loan liability

If I co-sign for a car loan for my son who is 23 am I legally liable if he gets in a car accident and can be sued if it is a major accedent? Is there a way to co-sign for a loan to finance a loan and not be liable for his actions regarding the vehicle?
