Is it illegal to leave a child/baby in car unattended?

Technically, no, for the first 15 minutes, as long as no harm comes to the child. You also should not leave the engine running even with the windows up and the door locked. Florida Statute 316.6135 states that a child under the age of 6 may not be left unattended in a car for more than 15 minutes, or for any period of time if the engine is running or the health of the child is endangered.
