Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida

1. Go see a WC lawyer ASAP - someone who specializes in representing injured workers NOT employers.

2. Often, the employers lie and say they don't have WC. Don't always believe them.

3. If a subcontractor doesn't have work comp insurance, the law says the general contractor must pay the sub-contractor's employee workers' comp. If your boss was doing work without a general contractor, the landowner or property owner or lessor may be responsible.

3. II your employer once had work comp coverage but didn't pay, the law specifies a procedure that the insurane company must follow to cancel the insurance, and if they don't follow the procedure exactly, then the WC insurance is still effective and you can claim.

4. Sometimes, clever employers do business under different corporate names so a lawyer should check to see what other companies or corporations the employer has.
