Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Georgia

Transcript/Appeal

I need to get a copy of the transcript from a court. There is some incriminating evidence on the transcript and the reporter is charging me over $400 for the transcript and stating it will take 30 days to get it. I need it to file an appeal . What can I do?

Re: Transcript/Appeal

First, file the Notice of Appeal to make sure you don't waive your right to appeal. This has to be done within 30 days of a state judgment, or 10 days of a federal judgment. The Court of Appeals will also need a copy of that transcript, so the appeal isn't actually docketed until the transcript is completed. The actual brief of the issues on appeal is due between 30 and 40 days after the appeal is docketed. The $400 fee sounds about right for a lengthy transcript. If you hire a lawyer, the lawyer will generally absorb the cost.
