Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

One of the answers on this site said that the cost for a chap 7 is around $700 and a chap 13 is about $1500 with the filing fees added. After reading that I feel that I have been gouged by my attorney for my BK.

Well, I was charged $1,500 to file a chap 7 that was not approved and then $5,000 for a chap 13 not including the filling fees. I had a car accident that totaled my car that was included in the BK right before it was confirmed and this did complicate things but I still think $6,500 is excessive.

Is there any recourse I can take to recoup any of that money?

The fee you pay your lawyer is (and I am sure was) agreed upon by you and your lawyer. They each have their own fee schedule. You presumably had the opportunity to see other lawyers to see what they charged and you could have gone with them instead. If you did not, it is not the lawyer's fault. The fact that someone else charges less, or you read something on a website, does not change the agreement you made.

While you probably could have shopped and done better, $1500 and $5000 are not abnormal although those are higher than the norm. If you agreed to those fees and the court okayed them, the fees are going to stand.
