are there resale laws for selling computers? IE: wiping a hard drive before resale?

You can end up in jail if you get it wrong.

The laws are complex. Since much of the software sold today is licensed and not really sold, you could be criminally prosecuted or civilly sued for the sale of a computer with any software on it. That can include the operating system in some cases. If you plan to leave programs on, call the companies to verify that they can be transferred. That includes the operating system itself.
