Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

County vs Citizen

County vs. Citizen

Our county has placed trashcans in front of everyones houses and left a note saying that we are to call our old trash haulers and tell them to come and get their trashcans and we are to start using the counties now trash cans now. They are calling this a mandatory change and everyone is going to have to switch over to their services & pay their price, which is about $10.00 more per month for me. Can they make me pay for a service that I do not want? I would rather haul my own trash to the dump. Whats more is that they are putting the small businesses out of business. Is that in it self-not constitutional? It seems like communism to me.

Thanks

Re: County vs Citizen

Yes, they can charge mandatory sanitation fees, and yes, it comes within the public services provided by counties (or cities). Providing this public service is neither unconstitutional nor communism. However, you may raise the issue at the next commission meeting.
