Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Fraud

Upon purchase of my vehicle in 12/07, I was offered the 'extended-plus gold' warranty package for an extra $2800. Since I was buying a used truck (2005 GMC Sierra 2500) I thought it would be a good idea. The truck was purchased 'as is' which included a previous modification of a lift kit. Now, a year later, the steering box busted and the adjuster denied the claim, stating the warranty will not cover anything because the truck had been modified. As the dealership that sold us the (modified) truck is now bankrupt, we are stuck with a warranty that does us no good, so we cancelled it. Do we have any recourse in getting any of our money back? Or are we just another casualty of deceptive practices of big business?

Thanks for any info you may have.

Re: Fraud

The missing information is what were the terms of the warranty and did you read the terms prior to the purchase. A warranty is like any other contract - you read it and understand the terms before you sign. If you do not get all paperwork and terms to review, you do not sign. The bottom line, however, if if the dealership is out of business you'd likely get very little or nothing even if you had a valid claim.
