Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Collections

The question I have is concerning a creditor. About three years ago I signed up to recieve some magazines but realizing that I could not pay for them I tried to have the subscription cancelled and was told i was unable to do so because it was past the three day limit on the paper. So the magazines never got paid for. I am now recieving phone calls at work and previously recieved phone calls at my mother's house where the caller would leave messages on the answering machine saying things like I had to appear in court or that I had jury duty. I am over the age of 18 and was over 18 at the time these calls were placed and had not lived with my mother in the last 3 years. She would constantly call about this legal matter but when I would try to verify the company that she worked for thru the BBB I was unable to due to the nonspecific name. I am unsure what to do. I did not want the magazines and tried to cancel and was unable to. Now this co continues to threaten legal action and has been doing so for the last year or two. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Collections

Depending on the language of the magazine agreement, it sounds like you are stuck paying for them. However, most creditors will work with you to pay off the debt. Often, they will accept pennies on the dollar in order to collect a part of the judgment.
