Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

furniture repossession

I purchased $18,000 of furniture. I was unemployed, but intended to pay it off with 401K account funds. A Family emergency depleted the funds. I am employed now, but don't make enough to pay the scheduled $680 per month. The furniture store sold the loan to a company which hired a collection agency. I was paying $300 per month, but I am told I am past due $2,400. I don't have that much money now. I tryed to negotiate a reduced pymt of $450 per month, but manager said that was unacceptable. He said I have to pay within 24 hours $19,000. I don't have that, but I can pay the $450 per month. It is 5 days later. Today a furniture truck appeared at my home and rang the bell. I did not answer and they left. I have not received a written demand for payment in full letter, nor anything from a court. My question is, can they repossess my furniture, what are my rights, and what is the due possess procedure, and can I get them to accept my offer of $450 per month?

Re: furniture repossession

If they have a contract which allows it, they can repossess the furniture (and they will then also likely sue you). They do not have to accept partial payments.
