Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

My friend was held down on the ground by her boyfriend and assaulted. she fought back to get up and he grabbed her belongings and ran. she followed and called the cops. some how the police talked to him first and decided to arrest her. she has bonded out and wants to press charges on him. what course of action should be taken?
