moving foward

i live in the state of ga and 7 yrs ago i committed a felony. Now that i am almost 27 i got accepted into the nursing program and was removed because i could not pass the background check to move on to clinicals. WHAT CAN I DO? i am not the same person back then but my crime wont let me forget. A lawyer told me about the parole board and some pardon thing and he also gave me the number but when i call i can never get someone on line-PLEASE HELP ME

You can go to their web site http://www.pap.state.ga.us/ and click the Clemency link. There you'll find information on the pardon process. Though I think it's always best to have a lawyer represent you if you can find one you can afford. Call Abby Taylor or Marcia Stein (state bar web site will have their contact info), they ar two attorneys in GA who work on pardons a lot. One of them should be able to put you in touch with right person, if they can't represent you. Also, you can call the GA State Bar and ask for a referral.
