Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

17 leaving home and doesn not want to go back

I have a friend who their family took in a girl that left home. She is 17 years old. Now this week her parents are taking the family,17 yrd old and anyone else that has been friends with her, to court. The parents want her back home and wants the judge to make her stay home and to order the others to stay away from her. I thought and they teach our kids in school, that at the age of 17 you can leave home and your parents can not do anything about it. She does not want to do home. She is still in school and is looking for a part time job. As a 17 yr old, does she have any rights?

Thanks.

I think it is extremely important that somebody concur with Mr. Ashman about this, so I will.

This is a very serious situation. I am completely taken aback that any school would teach that 17 year-olds can just get up and leave. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The people who this girl is staying with should uninvolve themselves immediately if they are smart.

17 year olds have no authority to leave home and the people who took her in could be in severe trouble.
