Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

name change

My child is 11 years old and at time of her birth I was unsure of father(two possible). One signed the birth certificate and she took his last name.Three years ago I asked for paternity test and it was proven the other man in question is the father and I,he,and as well she wants her real fathers last name. What is the easiest, cheapest way for me to go about this? Please help.Thanks.

Re: name change

You can file a petition in the Superior Court. He might want to go ahead and legitimate the child and do everything at once. He has no access rights to the child unless he legitimates the child.

Re: name change

If everyone cooperates you may be able to legitimate the child, correct the birth certificate and change the child's name at once. Child support will also be set. This is not a do-it-yourself project, but, with a lawyer, it should not be all that expensive.
